Sport
Herning har gennem en årrække været vært for en lang række sportsbegivenheder og mesterskaber. Alt fra landevejscykling til ultimate frisbee, bordtennis, squash og triatlon. Siden 2007 har Herning Kommune bevidst satset på at være hjemsted for internationale sportsbegivenheder.
Og når man taler sport og Herning, kommer man ikke uden om håndboldslutrunder. Dem har Herning gentagne gange lagt gulv til. Både EM og VM for både herrer og damer har fundet sted i byen.
”H” i Herning kunne også stå for hest i stedet for håndbold – og naturligvis hockey. I 2003 var der første gang VM for Islænderheste i Herning og siden har de firbenede gentagne gange indtaget byen, bl.a. ved den årlige World Cup Herning og det tredobbelte EM i 2013. I maj 2018 ramte hockeyfeberen byen i det 18 dage lange VM mesterskal i ishockey. Og i 2022 ser byen igen frem til en kæmpe event når VM i springning, dressur, voltigering og para-dressur afholdes i Herning.
