The 2025 IIHF World Championship will be the 89th World Ice Hockey Championship organized by the IIHF. The championship will be held in Sweden and Denmark. Sweden is the World Cup host country for the 12th time, while it is the second time that Denmark has iced the World Cup matches.

Spectators, leaders and volunteers alike still look back with pleasure on the wonderful moments from 2018, when Herning and Copenhagen together organized the World Cup in ice hockey, which was the biggest sporting event ever on Danish soil.

That it could be done at all was a magnificent achievement by all those involved, and the folk festival, which unfolded in Herning, received great praise from the many foreign visitors.

It gave me the courage to do more, and contrary to the "normal", Denmark - as a relatively small ice hockey nation - already gets the opportunity to organize the World Cup again in 2025. This time in the company of Sweden, which is the primary host in 2025 and therefore gets semi-finals and finals, while Denmark gets to enjoy a pool with eight teams and two quarter-finals.

Now it has finally been decided that the 30 "Danish" WC matches in 2025 will be played in the Jyske Bank Box, and thus Herning will be the center of the Danish WC celebrations in May 2025, while Stockholm will host the second pool, the final matches, and the traditional IIHF Congress.

- Herning and Copenhagen were fantastic hosts for the WC in 2018 in their own way. Since our WC hosting was announced back in 2019, Herning Municipality - with mayor Lars Krarup as a formidable whip - and the actors in central Jutland have been extremely active and outreach in the efforts to become Denmark's home ground in 2025, says Henrik Bach Nielsen, chairman of the Danish Ice Hockey Union.

- Herning as WC host in 2025 together with Stockholm. It can only be good. In 2018, Herning and Copenhagen hosted the WC with great success and also much praise from the international federation. Expectations for 2025 are therefore high. I am sure that Herning's players in cooperation with the Danish Ice Hockey Union and Sport Event Denmark can repeat the success, adds Lars Lundov, director of Sport Event Denmark.
