Words, Love, and Driving Schools in West Jutland.
How do you find yourself when you’ve moved to a small town on the West Coast, surrounded by wind, silence, and people who speak in short sentences? That’s what the protagonist in Meter i sekundet (“Meters per Second”) is trying to figure out when Folketeatret’s popular production comes to MCH Herning Kongrescenter on May 12, 2026.
Finding yourself out of place
Based on Stine Pilgaard’s critically acclaimed novel, the story follows a young woman uprooted from city life and placed in the middle of Velling, where folk high school songs, advice columns, and driving tests fill her days.
It’s funny, moving, and relatable. She tries to understand the Jutland mentality, to fit in, and to find new ways of using her words in a society where silence speaks louder than talk.
The performance is full of music and warmth, inviting the audience into the everyday life and community of the folk high school. Here we meet, among others, her patient driving instructor, her poetic boyfriend, and the town’s colorful residents.
Meter i sekundet is a tribute to words, identity, and the courage to start over. The production can be experienced at MCH Herning Kongrescenter on May 12, 2026.
