Man lånte jo ikke nåle i Herning

Artist: Kerstin Bergendal

Kerstin Bergendal's work consists of two parts. Approximately 200 tiles with quotes taken from conversations with the city's citizens, which have then been engraved into the paving both inside and outside the cultural centre Hjertet, make up one part of the artwork.

At the heart of the new cultural centre in Ikast hides a different and thought-provoking artwork. It consists of 176 quotes – selected from a series of conversations and reflections in which local citizens and stakeholders participated during a public "hearing" arranged by the artist in 2017. Here, they were invited to share their thoughts about everyday life and the social fabric of the town.

The quotes are engraved in the floor surfaces both inside the cultural centre and outside on the large square. They are scattered across the surfaces like small, delicate voices – some sarcastic, others humorous, whimsical, or reflective – together forming a kaleidoscopic picture of life in Ikast.
