Landsbyfesten
Sunday 17 August 2025.
On this day, we once again open the charming houses at the Frilandsmuseet Herning and invite you to a Village Festival.
In celebration of EuroSkills 2025 – where Europe’s most skilled young craftsmen compete in their trades at Messecenter Herning – the Village Festival will also shine a spotlight on great craftsmanship.
On the same day, we open the exhibition Celebration of the Trades, which tells the story of this remarkable event.
There will be various stations focusing on crafts and tools.
You’ll get the chance to discover traditional trades that were once common in small villages.
The volunteers from the Village Guild are well-versed in these trades and will be sharing their knowledge throughout the day.
We’ll fire up the historic forge from Fjelstervang, where blacksmiths will demonstrate their skills.
The traditional craft of cooperage will be presented by Niels Kristian Brinth, and Herning Husflid will be on hand with a small exhibition showcasing their expertise.
Throughout the afternoon, there will be activities for both children and adults, with opportunities to try out old crafts firsthand.
Historiens Hus will also be open, with the building’s various associations welcoming visitors. You can explore the Hospital Museum, the Evald Tang Kristensen Collection, and the Occupation Apartment. And don’t miss Inge Faurtoft’s beautiful perspective boxes depicting Jens Nielsen’s Farm – always worth a visit.
Admission is free for both children and adults. Don’t forget a blanket and picnic basket – and bring the whole family along!
