The Hockey Factory
May 3 - December 21, 2025.
In May, Herning hosted the Ice Hockey World Championship – and at the Textile Museum, you have the opportunity to get up close to the fascinating history of ice hockey in one of Denmark’s most prominent hockey cities.
Join a journey through the sport’s evolution – from the earliest skates made of bone during the Viking Age to today’s advanced equipment. The exhibition offers insights into how ice hockey has progressed from makeshift rinks on lakes and parking lots to modern arenas and increasing professionalization.
Certain Danish cities are particularly associated with ice hockey – those that built rinks early and joined the Metal League. The exhibition also highlights the breakthrough of the 1990s, when the sport experienced significant growth and Denmark qualified for the World Championship’s top division with a generation of players who would later make their mark in the NHL.
Get up close to original jerseys, skates, sticks, and the personalities who have shaped Danish ice hockey through the years.
You’ll experience both local perspectives on Herning’s role as a hockey hub and broader stories about the national teams’ impressive achievements.
