The Hockey Factory

May 3 - December 21, 2025.

In May, Herning will host the Ice Hockey World Championship – and at the Textile Museum, you’ll have the chance to get up close to the fascinating history of ice hockey in one of Denmark’s most iconic hockey cities.

Join us on a journey through the evolution of the sport – from the earliest bone skates used in Viking times to today’s advanced equipment. The exhibition offers insight into how ice hockey has developed from improvised rinks on lakes and parking lots to modern arenas and a steadily increasing professionalization of the sport.

Some Danish cities are especially known for their strong ties to ice hockey – these are the ones that built indoor rinks early on and joined the top national league, the Metal Liga. The exhibition also highlights the breakthrough of the 1990s, when the sport gained momentum and Denmark qualified for the elite World Championship, thanks to a generation of players who later made their mark in the NHL.

Get close to original jerseys, skates, sticks, and the personalities who have helped shape Danish ice hockey over the years.

The exhibition features both the local perspective on Herning’s role as a hockey hub and the broader story of the national teams’ remarkable achievements.
