Socle du Monde

The sculpture “Socle du Monde” by Piero Manzoni (1961).

Socle du Monde (Base of the World) is a groundbreaking work from 1961 by the Italian artist Piero Manzoni. The sculpture consists of an iron block measuring 82 x 100 x 100 cm, placed at the HEART museum of contemporary art in Herning.

By turning the pedestal upside down, Manzoni declares the entire world a work of art, challenging our traditional perceptions of art and object. It invites reflection on both the role of art and our understanding of the world around us.
