The museum originated in the borderland between art and business and was carried forward by the passionate shirt manufacturer Aage Damgaard (1917-1991), who has created the foundation for the museum's collection. With Steven Holl's unique architecture as a backdrop, you as a guest at HEART can experience world-class contemporary art. The museum annually presents 3-4 exhibitions with some of the greatest Danish and international artists of the time.
The area where you will find HEART is called Birk Centerpark - also called The White City. Today it is a unique, internationally known area, where art, architecture, landscape, education and business are combined in an exciting interplay.
Here, you can also experience the art museum Carl-Henning Pedersen & Else Alfelt Museum, the Sculpture Park, the Geometric Gardens and the giant sculpture Elia.
Shop the many stores in town
The opportunities for shopping are many in Herning. In Herning City you will find the city's long pedestrian street (Østergade/Bredgade) filled with shops that are excited to welcome you inside. Enjoy the beautiful pavement and take a rest on the pedestrian street's beautiful benches surrounded by flowers and trees. If you want to shop for gorgeous clothes and quality jewelery, visit for instance Jydepotten, Guldsmeden Facius eftf. and M. C. Mortensen.
3 km from the centre you will find herningCentret, which with its 80 shops and 11 cafés is Central Jutland's largest shopping centre. Here, you can shop fashion clothes, jewelery and design crafts, etc. in stores such as Moss Copenhagen, Companys, Moster D and Statement.
Lunch with local ingredients
Have a nice lunch at one of the city's many cafés and restaurants. Everything the heart desires is served here, e.g. crispy salads, juicy steaks, potatoes and aioli, for which you might be tempted to have a glass of cold rosé wine or an exciting cocktail. Stop by Brdr. Price on Torvet in Herning and get a wonderful taste experience. You choose whether you want to sit inside the beautiful restaurant or outside on the beautiful terrace, overlooking the pedestrian street and the city square.
In the pedestrian zone you will also find restaurants such as Ristorante Ravello, Café Dyrbys, Huset Poulsen and Café Fry.
Jump into the clear waters
Are you up for a little extra fun, then visit Fuglsang Lake and take a dip in the cold waters. Many winter swimmers meet here and not only because of the cold shock, but to get a full experience with the smell of the water, the change of seasons and the wildlife in the area.
If winter swimming is not entirely for you, we would recommend a visit to DGI Huset Herning's water culture park. Here you will find a spa with a steam bath, sauna and a modern wellness area with massage, infrared sauna, light therapy, hot and cold water tubs, etc.
