The British rock band Dire Straits was formed in 1977 by Mark Knopfler, John Illsley, David Knopfler, and Pick Withers and went on to achieve worldwide success. Their best-selling album, "Brothers in Arms," was the first album to sell over a million copies in the then-new CD format.
