Tour of Scandinavia - Stage 5
26 August 2023.
For the first time, a single start will be run in the Tour of Scandinavia. It will be a 16.4 km long route with start and finish in the center of Herning. It's a route that benefits the strongest pace riders, but it's not enough to just be sharp on the long, straight stretches, because the kilometers in the center of Herning also offer technical passages that make demands on the riders. On the technical passages, important seconds can be both gained and lost in the battle against the clock, but the biggest time differences will occur on the straight stretches north of Herning.
The riders start one by one at Tinghuspladsen, right next to Herning Library. The first meters of the route are driven through Østergade, before the riders turn left up through Kousgaards Plads and left again by Nygade. The first 3 km are run in the city of Herning, before the riders come outside the city limits and ride north on a long, straight stretch of 2 km. Just before Gullestrup turn left on a slightly hilly stretch towards Tjørring, before driving towards Herning midtby along Vesterholmvej, and the riders pass between Holing Sø and Fuglsang sø. On this approx. 5 km long stretch, the riders will get the maximum out of the aerodynamic position, as it is a high-speed stretch. These large roads continue through Herning until the riders hit the ramp at Bethaniagade and Mindegade. The last 300 m up towards Torvet is slightly uphill, and here the riders will have to push their last efforts into the pedals before crossing the finish line at Torvet.
